POSITIVE PAY SYSTEM (PPS)

To increase customer safety in cheque payments and reduce instances of fraud occurring on account of tampering with cheque leaves, the Reserve Bank of India announced the introduction of the Positive Pay System for Cheque Truncation System (CTS) vide its Circular No. DPSS.CO.RPPD.No.309/04.07.005/2020-21 dated 25th September 2020, advising Banks to implement the same by January 01, 2021

In this irrespective, the Bank has introduced Positive Pay System for cheques of Rs. 2.00 lakhs and above. Through Positive Pay, cheques will be processed for payment, based on information passed on by you at the time of issuance of the cheque.

WHAT IS POSITIVE PAY SYSTEM

The concept of Positive Pay involves a process of reconfirming key details of large-value cheques. Under this process, the issuer of the cheque submits electronically, through channels like SMS, mobile app, internet banking, ATM, etc., certain minimum details of that cheque (like date, name of the beneficiary/payee, amount, etc.) to the drawee bank, details of which are cross-checked with the presented cheque by CTS. Any discrepancy is flagged by CTS to the drawee bank and presenting bank, who would take redressal measures.

To avail of this facility, You need to share the following details of the issued cheque at least 24 working hours before the cheque is presented in the clearing.

  • Account Number (15-digit Account number)
  • Cheque/Instrument Number
  • Date of Cheque ( Cheque Issue date )
  • Amount on the cheque
  • Transaction Code (2-digit code available at the bottom of your cheque )
